An Introduction to the Owner of The Engine Room

This is Jim Harris, sole proprietor of The Engine Room. Long an enthusiast of automobiles and photography, Jim has managed to do what few of us dream of -- he does something he enjoys for a living. I first met Jim when I worked for many years at a local independent videostore here in Portland, Maine. When he approached me about doing a webpage for his shop a few years ago, little did I know what was in store for me!

Jim is a born and bred Mainer. He loves his home, but also travels to Europe and countrywide on a frequent basis. His greatest joy is engines, whether auto, marine, or kit airplane. I can't think of a more friendly and solidly dependable person.

Jim has a very hands-on approach to his work, and he likes his engines to be as solid as rock (but cleaner and shinier than rock, of course!) when he's done with them.

His shop is a treasure trove of parts and old auto reference books. And, as you can see from our Troubleshooting page, he's perfectly happy to share his encyclopedic know-how with anyone who asks. :)

In closing, I'd just like to say that if you walk up to Jim, and shake his hand, or if you see an engine he's worked long and hard into the night hours to fix up, you know he's real... and not just a picture on a webpage.
